How to Host an Oscars Party at Home

If you've read any of our previous blog posts, you probably already know how much we love a themed party. Is it a holiday, is someone getting married, graduating, having a birthday, expecting a baby? We're on it! We're also big movie buffs so there was no chance of us not hosting a party for Hollywood's biggest night, the Oscars. Here then are some of our best tips for hosting a fun, festive and delicious awards themed party

The Invitations

Send out invitations. Emails or texts are fine for this but if you want to be extra (we do, we do) create a chart of the awards and nominees to include with the invitation. This will give your friends a chance to watch any of the nominated movies they haven't seen yet and decide who they're rooting for.

Let your guests know if the party has a theme beyond just the awards show (like roaring 20's, gold age of Hollywood, etc.) Tell them if they can bring anyone or anything and, of course, let them know that food and drinks will be served. Or you can make it a potluck and include a sign up sheet for dishes.

The Decorations

The decorating might be our favorite part of hosting a party. Except maybe for the eating and drinking part.

Because the Oscar statue is gold, we used it as our signature color with pops of black and a little red here and there. If you have the space and budget, consider a piece of red carpet as guests enter. If they're up for it, they can take a twirl to show off their outfit while you snap a quick photo.

Check out any party supply store, or even Amazon, for Oscars party decorations. We picked up themed cupcake liners and toppers, some movie clapper boards and 3D gold stars. A black tablecloth with some gold fabric draped over it gave us the base for our table. And there's nothing wrong with decorative paper plates and plastic champagne flutes if you don't want to do a lot of dishes after the party.

The Food

As much as we love decorating, the food is definitely a highlight. Whether you serve more dinner type items will depend on when you start the party. But even if you begin later, after the red carpet parade of outfits, you'll still need snacks. We recommend doing a charcuterie board with cheeses, cold cuts, crackers and some fresh fruit. Some guests will be hungrier than others and this will allow everyone to take as much or as little of whatever they like.

While a full dinner might be optional, the quintessential move snack is not. It is not an Oscars party without the popcorn and our Movie Night kernels are a fan favorite with a nice mix of both a fluffy and crunchy texture and that classic "corny" taste. Sustainably grown, gluten free, non-GMO and proudly supplied to us by small family farmers in the Midwest. You can buy them by clicking this LINK.

When you're picking up decorations, don't forget to grab some gold disposable popcorn cups so that everyone can dive into their own personal popcorn during the show. And since we've gone with a gold theme, we also make a big batch of our gold popcorn. Trust us, it'll go fast! Grab the recipe HERE.

In addition to other popular party snacks like bowls of nuts and chocolates, we also like to offer a dessert. Cupcakes are easy to make, look adorable decorated with themed cupcake toppers and some gold sprinkles and are also handy for guests to grab. You can never go wrong with a classic chocolate frosting.

Of course we're drinking champagne. Gotta toast to the winners and drown our sorrows when our favorite actors don't make the cut. Happy watching!
