Our Hot Cocoa Popcorn Bombs are filled with delicious hot cocoa mix, mini marshmallows and popcorn for a fun twist on these trendy treats. If you’ve seen hot cocoa bombs on the internet but haven’t tried them yet, they are so much fun. You can buy them already made but they’re easy to make yourself and then you can customize them. Plus it’s loads of fun as a project with kids with a delicious reward at the end.
The bombs consist of a chocolate sphere, made in an inexpensive silicone mold. They’re filled with hot cocoa mix and mini marshmallows. A little heat from a warm plate melts the edges of the two halves of the mold just enough to stick together and form a ball. When ready to serve, just heat up some milk, put the ball into a cup and pour the milk over. The heat from the liquid will melt the chocolate and the ball will pop open, which is the fun part. Once you see the marshmallows explode to the surface, just stir to combine the hot cocoa mix into the milk. The chocolate from the outer shell will melt as well so you’ll have an extra rich, extra chocolately cup of hot cocoa. What’s not to love about that, right?
Once you’ve mastered making these balls – and trust us that “mastered” happens after a single try – you can customize them as much as your imagination will allow. Dark instead of milk chocolate. A layer of peanut butter inside the chocolate. White chocolate drizzled over the top. There are so many decoration possibilities alone. We kept it simple with some of our chocolate caramel popcorn seasoning sprinkled on top and the crunch and texture of a little popcorn inside the ball. These also make amazing gifts!

Hot cocoa popcorn bombs are milk chocolate spheres filled with hot cocoa mix, mini marshmallows and crunchy popcorn. When hot milk is poured over them, they release their contents to create a rich cup of hot chocolate.
Set a bowl over a pot of simmering water and add the milk chocolate chips. Stir gently until the chocolate chips have melted and the mixture is smooth. You can also do this in the microwave by heating the chips in intervals of about 15 seconds, stirring and continuing to heat until smooth and melted.
Add a large spoonful of melted chocolate into each of the 6 cavities in your chocolate bomb mold. Smooth it up the sides with the back of the spoon and be sure to get it fully up the sides to the top of the cavity. Refrigerate or freeze for a few minutes to set it.
Add another spoonful of melted chocolate into each of the cavities and smooth up the sides with the back of the spoon to make sure the ball is thick enough. Return to the refrigerator or freezer to set it.
Remove the half rounds of chilled chocolate from the molds gently. They should come out pretty easily from a silicon mold.
Fill each of 3 of the chocolate ball halves with 2 tablespoons your favorite packaged hot cocoa mix, 2 tablespoons of mini marshmallows and a handful of popcorn.
Warm a plate over the pot of boiling water and press each of the empty chocolate ball halves against it to slightly melt the rim. Place the empty half balls over the filled half balls to seal.
Sprinkle the top of each chocolate ball with some Dell Cove Spices chocolate caramel popcorn seasoning.
When ready to serve, heat the milk, place one hot cocoa bomb into a mug and pour the hot milk over it. The ball should burst open and release its contents. Stir until smooth and enjoy.
